No Worries!

I couldn't be happier to report that Nick's dad left the hospital today and is doing well. He didn't suffer any damage to his heart and is back to his normal self after what was a very scary situation.

Brooklynn didn't get to visit Poopa because children weren't allowed in that section of the hospital. B did call him from the waiting room to sing her favorite song from the Lion King. I'm not sure Poopa could understand much of it since she can be a little shy on the phone. So, I recorded her singing in the car on the way home from our weekly cafeteria dinner with Mimi and Pops tonight.
If you don't have a clue what song she is singing then this video might help.

After dinner we stopped by the downtown airport observation deck to see if we could catch some planes landing or taking off. B is really interested in planes lately. No luck though. We'll try again on Saturday if it is pretty out.

Things Change

Today didn't go as planned.

This morning Kristy and I volunteered at the Humane Society. (It was Kristy's turn to pick what we did.) We hung out and walked some pretty cool adult dogs who need good homes and a little love. At times it was sad, but I am glad I did it. I'm also pretty proud of myself for walking out the door without a dog. Nick would not have been happy.

We also planned to take B to the zoo today. The weather was beautiful and it is Bob the Orangutan's 3rd birthday. We planned to watch him eat his cake and make his Super Bowl pick.

And then the phone rang.

I looked down to see it was Nick's mom. I picked up and could only make out that Nick's dad had a heart attack and that we needed to get to the hospital right away.

A million thoughts ran through my head as I couldn't get ahold of Nick. (Nick was in the middle of a pretty good nap and didn't hear the phone). Luckily Kristy was right beside me to keep dialing because my hands wouldn't quit shaking. My thoughts were everywhere, but mostly on Nick's mom as I was seriously concerned for her as she drove alone from Tigerville to the hospital.
I got my dad right away and he headed to our house to get B. Thank goodness the cops weren't out on Pelham bc Dad ran half the red lights so Nick could be on his way to the hospital without being delayed.

B and Marlee with Gram and Poopa last summer.
Some of you may remember my post about Poopa riding in the tea cups. It was pretty entertaining for all who witnessed!

Andy and Karen are special to a lot of people. When I got to the hospital it was packed. A waiting room FULL of people praying for this family.

I guess the best way to describe today is to direct you to this blog and to say that tonight we are feeling pretty lucky and thankful to have Poopa still with us.

Games

I don't know if I have mentioned lately how much B loves games and especially puzzles at the moment. We played a few games tonight before bed.

Weekend Updates

B had a good week. She headed back to dance Thursday after taking last week off. (We didn't have anyone to take her bc Mom and Dad were out of town.) She was very excited and kept saying she was ready to "Shake her booty." Unfortunately she had an accident and had to leave a little early. Mom said it didn't phase her though.

Yesterday Poopa and Gram came to visit B. Brooklynn was very excited to play all her new games with Gram. She definitely enjoyed herself! Brooklynn is looking forward to calling Gram and Poopa this week to tell them about all she is doing at school.

Today we didn't do much of anything. Well, I take that back. I actually cleaned out Brooklynn's entire playroom. Out with the old and in with the new. She has accumulated so much stuff that it was time to pack up her baby toys to make room for all of her new games and puzzles. Organization makes me happy!

MLK Community Day of Service

Saturday was the Martin Luther King Community Day of Service in Greenville. All of the county's different organizations worked together to help clean up and beautify locations all around Greenville. My friend, Kristy, and I chose to volunteer at Cedar Grove Baptist. Cedar Grove is the oldest church in Simpsonville and was started by freed slaves at the end of the Civil War. The cemetery has graves dating all the way back to the time of Reconstruction. The only problem is that many of them were covered by brush and trees. We worked all morning clearing trees, thorns, leaves, and limbs. I wish I had taken a before and after pic because we uncovered a ton of baby cedars, which will be uprooted and replanted around the cemetery.
Afterwards the YWCA presented a picture of Dr. King to the congregation of the church. It looks like this will be an annual thing at Cedar Grove Baptist!

Kristy is picking our next volunteer project. I can't wait to see what she finds!

It's Finally Here!!!

So for the past year and a half I have been stuck with a Smartboard in my room that doesn't work. Plus, it was covering up 9o% of my dry erase board, so I have been teaching on a little 6 foot square that doesn't erase except with baby wipes. Sigh.

Today that all changed!

Goodbye Smartboard! Goodbye writing on a board that doesn't erase! Goodbye to constantly shuffling kids around so they can see better.

Hello, Promethean!!!!!!!!!!! Today when I left, this is how my classroom looked as they were installing my brand new Promethean board. I can't wait to get ahold of this thing tomorrow!

If you don't have any clue why I am so excited, take a look at this:

It's a Party!

Yesterday we celebrated Brooklynn's birthday with all her little friends. Brooklynn woke up on the wrong side of the bed and was in a bad mood most of the day, including during her party. She did well for the majority of the time and still had fun.
Here is a pic of B and her best bud from school, Maya.

Brooklynn, Jordan, and her favorite buddy Sam

Overall, B's party was a success. We had about 16 kids, which was chaos but they had a blast! I have some videos to post I just have to figure out how to upload them from my new camera.

This is a picture of B ready for Sunday School this morning in her cute dress from Gram and Poopa.

Birthday Fun

I do have a good excuse for not posting yet this year. Our internet wasn't working, but is finally back up and running.

We had family over for cake and ice cream on Brooklynn's Birthday. Here are a few shots of some of B's new toys.

Today is B's birthday party with her little friends from school. She is super excited!
