Today didn't go as planned.
This morning Kristy and I volunteered at the Humane Society. (It was Kristy's turn to pick what we did.) We hung out and walked some pretty cool adult dogs who need good homes and a little love. At times it was sad, but I am glad I did it. I'm also pretty proud of myself for walking out the door without a dog. Nick would not have been happy.
We also planned to take B to the zoo today. The weather was beautiful and it is Bob the Orangutan's 3rd birthday. We planned to watch him eat his cake and make his Super Bowl pick.
And then the phone rang.
I looked down to see it was Nick's mom. I picked up and could only make out that Nick's dad had a heart attack and that we needed to get to the hospital right away.
A million thoughts ran through my head as I couldn't get ahold of Nick. (Nick was in the middle of a pretty good nap and didn't hear the phone). Luckily Kristy was right beside me to keep dialing because my hands wouldn't quit shaking. My thoughts were everywhere, but mostly on Nick's mom as I was seriously concerned for her as she drove alone from Tigerville to the hospital.
I got my dad right away and he headed to our house to get B. Thank goodness the cops weren't out on Pelham bc Dad ran half the red lights so Nick could be on his way to the hospital without being delayed.
B and Marlee with Gram and Poopa last summer.
Some of you may remember my post about Poopa riding in the tea cups. It was pretty entertaining for all who witnessed!
Andy and Karen are special to a lot of people. When I got to the hospital it was packed. A waiting room FULL of people praying for this family.
I guess the best way to describe today is to direct you to this blog and to say that tonight we are feeling pretty lucky and thankful to have Poopa still with us.
