Leaving for school
Loving the slide
Not too crazy about the swing
We had an eventful day off today. Nick and I took B to her new class this morning. She wasn't real sure what to think when we walked by the infant classroom and into the "Little Sprouts" classroom. I could see her confusion as we started to unpack and Ms. Kathy was nowhere to be seen. I put B down and she wouldn't stand, she started arching her back and soon began crying. Immediately, a little girl named Nora walked over to greet Brooklynn with a big hello and smile. Having witnessed many first days of kindergarten while teaching, I know the importance of not looking back. I grabbed Nick's hand and we left a little sad that B was unhappy.
I was shocked by how mobile the rest of the kids in the new class seemed to be. Her class goes up to 18 months and it was cool to see how much more kids are doing that are just a few months older. I'm excited that she can now learn from her older classmates instead of hanging out with infants in swings.
The theme this week is transportation and below are the things B did in her first class today:
- read "The LIttle Sailboat" and "Stuffy the Tugboat"
-colored sailboat shapes using chalk
-sang and danced to "Bumpin Up and Down in my Little White Sailboat"
-practiced the sign for "car" and ABC's in sign language
-played with sailboat toys in the grass
-raced sailboats down the sloped mat and back up again
-worked hard today with using a spoon to eat lunch
B's new teachers, Ms. Kemei and Ms. Toya wrote a note home today that said, " Brooklynn really had fun playing with musical instruments today. She is really mature for her age!"
When we picked her up this afternoon Brooklynn and her new friend, Nora, were playing hard. I asked the teachers what Nora's name was and they told me that she is a very bright little girl. I'm happy B has made a new friend and I noticed that the majority of kids in her class are boys.
When we got home today Nick went to the gym and B and I went to the park. She loves her red wagon and already knows what it means when we say, "Do you want to go for a ride in the red wagon?" She heads straight for the wagon and tries to climb in.
Nick and I are also very excited tonight because B was just accepted to The Goddard School in Greenville. I knew that we definitely wanted to stick with this daycare center because we have been so pleased with them and they really help the children developmentally. The Goddard School was just named the #1 franchise daycare center in the United States for the 8th straight year. The school in Greenville is under different ownership than B's current school, but today I spoke with my friend Jessica whose niece attends the Greenville Goddard School and they have also been very happy with their experience. I called tonight and found out that they had a few spots left for fall and Brooklynn was accepted! It is good to know that childcare is taken care of because it is so difficult to find. She can now attend The Goddard School all the way up through kindergarten and we don't have to worry about finding a suitable preschool.
