Yesterday I volunteered at the Run 2 Overcome with a couple of girls from work. This race was to help raise money for the Julie Valentine Center and over 700 runners participated! Kristy, my volunteer buddy, and I had to get up extra early, 4:45 to be exact, to be at Cleveland Park at 6 am. We were in charge of checking in the 10k runners for the 7:30 race. After we finished that we also checked in the 5k runners and then we were responsible for pulling the bib tags at the end of the 10k race as the runners came through the finish line. The bib tags are help tell the race coordinators who finished in which place.
We had a great time and this has been one of my favorite volunteer activities yet. After running so many 5k races it was fun to be on the other side of the table. I have to say though, I was absolutely exhausted the rest of the afternoon. It was worth it though!
Here are all the runners beginning the race and this was just the 5k!
My New Year's Resolution was to volunteer 50 hours in 2012. I don't think I am going to hit that this year. I guess I have a good excuse after the summer we've had. Having a baby in the fall makes it a little more difficult as well. I'm still working towards it though!
