Making a Difference?

Yesterday was the day that I have been dreading all year long, our grade level field trip to Atlanta. Those of you who know me well, know that I'm not a fan of field trips based on a certain experience my third year of teaching. Parents, kids, and really anybody who is not a teacher certainly doesn't understand all the planning and organization that goes into preparing to take close to 200 people to Atlanta on chartered buses from 7:00 am to 8 pm. Thank goodness for my super sweet grade level chair and great friend, Tracy LeGrand, who spent hours upon hours making sure we were prepared.

However, things don't always go as planned and at several points during the day I found myself wondering why I decided to become a teacher. My stress level was super high all day since I alone was in charge of a bus load of 9 chaperones, 42 kids and a student teacher.

My biggest stress came as we pulled into a Burger King parking lot for dinner in Commerce, Georgia and I find out that I had less than 45 minutes to get my entire bus through the line with one cashier and 4 workers. I have no idea how I made this happen, but I did it! As I was getting everyone fed an older gentlemen came up to me, put his hand on my shoulder and said, "Honey, when you get to Heaven, God will have a special reward for you."

I came home last night and Nick was waiting for me at the door with a big hug (he knows how much stress this has caused). I shed some much needed tears of relief and got into the bed only to have a friend post this video:

Oh yeah, that's why I became a teacher.

PS- I have a special love for lawyers myself, one who happens to provide all my classroom supplies and copy paper out of his pay! ;) And by the way, my sweet lawyer has already agreed to be a chaperone for next year's trip!
